Fussy Cat Litter Box - FAQ & Cleaning

Top Tips for the Fussy Cat Round Stainless Steel Litter Box

Choose the Right Spot: Place the litter box in a quiet, accessible area away from food and water. Cats prefer privacy, so avoid busy spots. If replacing an old box, put the new one in the same place.

Let Your Cat Explore: Allow them to sniff and investigate the box at their own pace. Mixing in a little old litter can make it feel familiar.

Encourage Use: Guide your cat to the box after meals or naps, and reward them with praise or treats when they use it.

Keep it Clean: Scoop daily to keep it fresh—cats are more likely to use a clean box.

Be Patient: Transitioning takes time. Avoid punishment, as it may create stress around using the box.

Watch Behaviour: Make sure your cat uses the box regularly. If they avoid it or seem distressed, consult a vet.

With patience and positive reinforcement, your cat will adjust to their new litter box confidently.

Cleaning guide

General Cleaning: Wash the litter box with warm water and mild, unscented soap on each litter change. This is usually enough for regular upkeep.

Tough Stains: For stubborn marks, use a mix of white vinegar and baking soda to lift stains and neutralise odours.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use chlorine, bleach, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the surface.

Deep Shine: Bar Keepers Friend powder (not the liquid) removes hard urine stains, fingerprints, and restores shine. This will also protect the surface against stains for longer. It contains Oxalic Acid, a compound found in rhubarb, an effective cleaner and protector of metal surfaces.  Available online or in shops like The Range for around £2.

Restoring the Surface (recommended every 6-12 months): Despite its name, Stainless Steel is not completely immune to tarnishing. A cat litter box is a harsh environment for any material and, just like a stainless steel sink, regular upkeep is recommended. With the right materials, this only takes 10 minutes or so. This will remove all marks and restore it back to new, ready for a lifetime of service!

To remove tarnishing, stains or marks from the surface: First clean the litter box and dry thoroughly. Use a soft Scotch-Brite pad (we include one in the box) or with care and a light touch, a kitchen scourer can be used. Always scrub gently in horizontal strokes, following the grain of the Stainless Steel. We recommend going over with a dusting of Bar Keepers Friend afterwards and finish with a polish from a soft cloth to further enhance the protection.
